Our History

Providence Baptist Church has a long and rich history dating back to its founding in 1887. Originally known as Providence Second Baptist Church of Catawba County, the church was established during a time when another nearby congregation carried the name Providence Baptist. In the early 1900s, that church was renamed Catawba Baptist Church, allowing our congregation to carry forward the Providence Baptist name.

Reverend C.J. Wilkie was called as the church’s first pastor, and Miles Hoffman served as its first clerk. With just 29 charter members, the foundation was laid for what would become generations of faithful ministry.

While much has changed over the past nearly 140 years, God’s provision has never wavered. We are grateful for His faithfulness in every season and pray that Providence Baptist will continue to be a light in our community and beyond for years to come.”
